by dave g Sorry about not starting this thread earlier, but this is where you can come and comment on how your players are doing.
by ponchi101 We actually did pretty well this week. Pegula and Osorio were in plenty of teams.
by ptmcmahon hehe... Well.. MOST of us did well.
I did half contest schzio right and pick Osorio in predictions at least.
by ashkor87 i didnt have Pegula because... I dont know, i just have this bias I guess, that she isnt that great a player! I really thought Keys or Bencic would win Charleston.. they fell at the first hurdle. oh well..
now I am not doing any more trades, used up all 5. That tactic worked well for me last time, so let us hope for the best... much less stress for me too!
by ptmcmahon I figured not to go with Pegula after her run to Miami final, and thinking she's not as good on clay (although her numbers look only a little worse.)
I think I mainly didn't pick Osorio since she wasn't scheduled for week 2 of tournaments.
by ponchi101 But it is not about Pegula being a "great" player. It was that she was the best player playing this week. She will be traded out by some people, when we move to red clay.
And going from slow hard courts to HT is not that rough.
Us that had Osorio got what we wanted. 50 points from a C player is a lot. She will probably play very little as she will likely not make the draws of Madrid or Rome, but she already paid off.
by
ptmcmahon Yeah the "not playing next week" isn't as good an argument for not taking a C player

Having Kalinina in Charleston just because she played next week was obviously not the right move (and not just because she only got 1 point.)
by ashkor87 Playing these games, including SP, gets in the way of my enjoying the tennis as tennis .so my clever workaround to enable me to do both, is to use up all my trades early and sit back ..now there is nothing I can actually do so I can just enjoy the tennis. It worked well last time, when I did no trades, more or less..let us see how it goes!

I think you are taking them too seriously, Ashkor.

Do what I do: If I score in the top half, I am happy.
Or: Anything that is only 25 points less than what Omegadoom gets is fine with me.

by
ptmcmahon The fantasy gods are now mocking me with the draws. My last two players in Rouen are playing in R16. And in Stuttgart I have five players - two players about to play each other... winner facing another of my players. And tomorrow the other two play

by ponchi101 Worry not. All of us that traded Mirra in just got our well deserved comeuppance.
May be a low scoring week for many of us.
by ptmcmahon Finding it very hard to figure out what trades to do. Really should have at least had one more A player in week one since I have a full lineup (except D players) this week and may again next week. Feels like any trade I would do would just be for the sake of doing a trade so will wait a week and hopefully will have something useful to do with them next week.
by
Oploskoffie My thoughts exactly!

And apart from a D and an E on my team facing each other in the first round, I have no conflicts and acceptable draws. May the tennis gods be kind this week...
by ponchi101 Part of my plan is working. Most of my players made it into Madrid. So no trades this week.
Of course, my low score this week was unplanned. I need some of my lower players to score one or two upsets. Which won't happen.
by
ptmcmahon After saying I probably won't do any trades, I make the one and only trade of the week

by ptmcmahon I (we?) have offended the draw gods again! Third round, have 6 players... and 4 going head to head.
by ponchi101 I don't even want to count how many players I have left. Maybe 3.
by patrick I am not going to look at my team until Monday on Madrid survivors
by ashkor87 I still have 7 ..they will of course beat each other now!
My biggest regret is I didn't pick Alexandrova .couldn't afford her..
Kudermetova, Svitolina, Sakkari are the ones I will probably lose today...I want Rybakina to beat Svitolina but I NEED Svitolina to win! that is the trouble with these fantasy games!
by ponchi101 I did not pick Svitolina. That will do me in. I mean, more than I already am.
by ashkor87 me rooting for Andreeva to beat Coco, just because she is on my team, and Coco isnt.. how this game distorts! same with Sabalenka vs Kostyuk (normally one of my favorite players except I didnt pick her)
by ponchi101 I have no such qualms. I have Andreeva, and I like her. So, since I like both players, I will go for the one that can give me points.
My regret of not picking Svitolina grows with every round.
by ashkor87 Semifinals..I have 3 of them, all except Coco (whom I actually like the best) - too bad!
by patrick Gauff is beginning to be a pain eliminating two of my players in the last two rounds.
by ptmcmahon Fortunately no one has her - would have been the winning move this week but I took a flyer on Paolini instead.
by ponchi101 Madrid always has weird results. Last year Iga was expected, but let's not forget than on the men's side, the winner was Rublev. Very hard to know what will happen.

Same here..but I like her so it is ok...

Remember Aravane Rezai,?!
by ashkor87 My strategy of not trading, seems to be working, again. I have used up all my trades deliberately... on to Rome!
by
ptmcmahon Yes, but how are you going to gain points this week if you can't trade? It would be working good if you were in top 3, but going to be hard to gain ground without a trade.
Then again, it may be hard to gain ground even with trades

Qualifying won't be done until post deadline too so hard to even do a trade there for someone to try to gain a round or two of points.
by ponchi101 My strategy of picking players and posting a team is not working that well. For some reason, I pick players than then don't win. I am baffled, as I certainly made sure to pick players that have a record of sucking big time for years, meaning that they were expected to do a regression to the mean and not suck for the clay season.
I wonder what I did wrong.
by ashkor87 It is all relative isnt it? A great marketing guru once said- i never change my positioning, I just make other people change their's

jinx jinx jinx!

ptmcmahon Was hoping Gauff might be my way to gain points this week since no one originally had her, but see three added her too after I went to sleep

Can't sleep if you want to be competitive in some of these

Gauff won't do much, i never had her on my team...

Wow, sounds like you are not getting enough sleep to begin with, to actually think Gauff was an outlier this week, and nobody would add her to their team, after she just made the final of the last tournament, Madrid! Now, had you picked her before Madrid ......

Yeah no kidding, we were all too late by a week.
It wasn't a case of thinking I was picking an outlier, it was a case of "ok, it's after midnight here, and trade deadline is in 5-6 hours. No one else has picked Gauff, so maybe I'll get lucky since a couple of people said they weren't doing trades."
Or everyone would be so convinced she couldn't win on clay twice in a row.
Regardless, this wound up a very hard contest to comeback from not having the right people in week one (even more than usual.) I should've planned more to do like Ashkor did!
by ashkor87 Do nothing always works!
by ptmcmahon My last traded in player gets me the same number of points as the number of games she won (1)
by ptmcmahon I dropped Sabalenka instead of Swiatek for my trade figuring Swiatek would be more likely to help "come back" if she did good... clearly the wrong move!
by ponchi101 I dropped neither, because I am second to last. But I was also expecting Iga to bounce back. I felt she was at least good for the semis.
by texasniteowl I may or may not regret not trading Gauff in like a lot of others. But I wasn't ready to take a chance on her even though she finally played a decent tournament at Madrid. Plus I was in 4th, so doing the same as others wouldn't really get me anywhere!
I have 2 players still in on the top half: Sabalenka and Andreeva and I have 4 players still in on the bottom half.
by ptmcmahon On the plus side it makes for some easy contest schzio for predictions, where none of my players are making the semis (although it's not very far fetched.)
by
Oploskoffie I'm just petrified to say or think anything regarding any outcomes at this point. Such things tend to end up working against me

by ptmcmahon Our players mess up often enough that we don't even need to jinx em!
by texasniteowl well, dang it. I traded in Osaka and yes, she got me a few points which is good but I thought she had a good chance to go another round. well, score based it seemed close?
by
ptmcmahon Well, my last trade lost first match so I would gladly have taken a few rounds instead

by texasniteowl Well, Osaka points aside, I still have Shnaider alive too! But...basically I need Andreeva to upset Gauff because Omegadoom and tenedab both have Gauff. (And everyone has Sabalenka and Svitolina, so no difference there!)

I don't know about good. Coco has apparently won all 3 times they've played including just a week ago (give or take) at Madrid.
But it depends on which Coco shows.
by ptmcmahon Right now I'm just hoping I lose by more than the points difference if I had kept Sabalenka instead of Swiatek so I feel less dumb.
by ashkor87 only two players left! lost Svitolina yesterday.. that was a shock, really, never thought Peyton could beat her!

Well, that was a close 2nd set. But indeed, Coco kept her perfect record against Mirra.
by texasniteowl yeah. well, I took a shot. plus I wasn't convinced Coco would perform well 2 weeks in a row given her year so far. but I was wrong.
as best I can tell, I retook 3rd place from Patrick. But I don't know if anyone behind us had a team that overtook us.
by ptmcmahon I haven't been watching other people's scores at all, but I think I'm the only one with Paolini. Not sure that'll be enough to help me crack top 3 even if she wins, but at least keeping it interesting.
by ptmcmahon And now I have to cheer against the player I traded in this week

Well, you did it! Congrats on choosing Paolini for your team! (and with Gauff, having both players in the final!).
