by ptmcmahon Shouldn't the total be both weeks added together? We are counting best 17 scores so no scores should be omitted until week 18 right?
by
ponchi101 yes, sure. But would take some extra tweaking of the excel sheet.
I will work both totals and will sort accordingly. Give me a little time

It actually makes sense to me that ponchi101 has the scores displayed the way he does. Since the lowest week will be omitted, showing the scores each week keeps us all updated as to what the actual standings are with the low-week omission. Waiting until Week 18 to include the omission would likely result in a big surprise / shakeup in the score rankings.
by ponchi101 I'll put both scores, with the lowest-week score as a the main one.
And actually, it is in the spreadsheet, when you go to the link. The last column to the right.

Chad is correct - I run a contest elsewhere that we drop the lowest and it has the drops from the 2nd event onwards

by Omegadoom How are you scoring the Green Bay/Dallas tie, 0 points or the points placed on the game?
by
ponchi101 0 points. Zilch. Nada. Niente.
We all got it wrong by picking a winner.
Uhm, I thought that in the past, we scored those as zero. Since we did not talk about it before the game, I believe that it would be unfair to adjust the game to a 0.5 score. Maybe something for next year?
by Fastbackss 0 has been the standard consensus
by ptmcmahon Yeah definitely should be a 0. Then the people who were least sure about the game are penalized the least since I guess in theory they were "closest" to picking a tie.

by ptmcmahon I wish I could disagree with that score but I can't. What an awful week.
The biggest kicker was I went out of my money Survivor Pool... with Arizona.

Should have taken my own advice...I do see 2 Bengals pickers this week.
by ponchi101 I was not paying that much attention and did not notice the Cincy pickers.
Indeed, a very good call. I really felt that the Bengals were toast without Burrow.
But that is the reason I am second to last in this contest. As much as I research and do everything to make my picks good ones.
by ptmcmahon Research can only help so much when the league has such crazy weeks. One week Denver beats the league's second last undefeated team... the next week they barely eke by the last winless team.
Meanwhile, the last undefeated team loses to a team that hadn't won back to back games in ... almost two years?
by ponchi101 A week with high scores, as there were not many upsets.
Omegadoom and NEN scored the week's and the contest's highest scores.

ptmcmahon Once again, having less faith in my Packers than others has started to pay off... I wasn't doing it earlier in the year but might be time to start.
In our home survivor pool, they knocked out my brother which gave my son the win (he had Rams and is still going.) He is now making fun of me saying I should have used his picks in my money pool

by ponchi101 That was a truly surprising loss. Not as if the Panthers were playing good ball as of late.
As I said in the lounge, Indy's loss was also weird.

This Packers fan is fine with that.
by ponchi101 Yep. I don't mind the results. Especially the Eagles losing.
I would have liked Detroit winning, because the Lions have been shameful for so long. But still, this year is not the same. They came back to their real level. Going back to their loss in the playoffs last year, they are 7-6 in their last 13 games. And most likely will miss the playoffs.
But I would not mind the Bears taking the division.

I actually had them all typed into the box here; all that remained was to click "Submit," and at that point something distracted me, and then I went on thinking I'd submitted here and I spent the rest of the time leading up to kickoffs fixing my fantasy football team rosters.

by
ptmcmahon With negative points for wrong games ... I'd say at least 6 of us are still in it for sure... 64 points not too hard to make up IF we get the right upset

(or avoid it with our high point picks.)
The others still have a chance too if they get a couple upsets but will be a long way to come.
by
ponchi101 I'll grant you five. I am in sixth and I have that 64 points gap. And neither Omega nor Wolfie are bad enough to lose that kind of lead.

by ptmcmahon 64 points is barely one 30 point upset swinging both ways (oh well a little more if loss is only 0.5 but you get the idea). This year's playoffs should be pretty unpredictable so definitely not out of the question.
The biggest favorite this week is the Rams playing a team they've already lost to!
by ponchi101 To me, the biggest question is: how soft was the Patriots schedule, really?
14 wins, but 4 came from Miami and the Jets. A quick search gives it to you: the collective record was .383, 66-106 (their opponents).
I give the chargers a really good chance. And may actually pick them.
by ptmcmahon They definitely had an easier schedule, but at the same time, they still won most of their games. New Orleans had the second easiest schedule and went 6-11. The Broncos also had one of the 8 easiest schedules (playing the Raiders twice is a yearly gift) and no one is using that as an argument against them. I don't mentally penalize teams too much for strength of schedule... you can only beat who you play.
Not to say the Chargers can't win this. They are a very tough team to figure out this year (even harder than other teams.) Herbert at times looks MVP-ish. I would not be shocked at all if they win.
by ponchi101 No one is using that against the Broncos. But they are also not being taken as a top team.
But between the Broncos and the Patriots, I say the Pats have a smaller chance of making the conference finals.
I am riding the Texans; if Stroud can give them only one TD per game, and keep the turnovers at zero, the defense can do the job.
by
ptmcmahon There definitely are lots of people taking the Broncos. I have them (losing) in Super Bowl in my bracket

I am a strong believer in Houston too, I have Denver-Houston AFC final.
On NFL Super Bowl Challenge right now NE is #2 super bowl winner pick from AFC, and Denver #3
Sixth seeded Buffalo is the top of AFC teams and second only to Seattle

Currently Chargers are the second lowest team picked to win Super Bowl.

It's my first year having discovered that TAT hosts this competition; I therefore had no idea that it extends into the postseason. Luckily, I happened to look a couple days ago to see who'd won and add my congratulatory message to the winner, only to discover there were more weeks of picks to make. It made my day!
Not only because it means four more weeks of picks, but also because it gives me a chance to finish in something other than last place
I agree that there are 6 of you still realistically competing for the championship. As for me, it's only slightly less fun competing to avoid last place. (I'm glad this isn't a contest akin to the many fantasy football leagues where the last-place finisher has to endure a "punishment" of some sort, given the current standings. Phew!)

by New England Nitemare The Bears almost pulled it....that was a costly loss for me as I slid to 4th.....
by ptmcmahon In one of my home bracket pick em games I switch to the Bears as it was my only way to catch up. But as a Packers fan I was very happy to see them go out.
by ponchi101 Not a fan of either Stroub or Williams right now. Poor performances by both.
The Texans have the elite defense; but I wonder how many guys want to stick around knowing that in big games, your QB will throw 3-4 INTs. I know, they will not say it aloud; but those guys must be thinking: it was not us...
by ptmcmahon He threw too many picks last night, but I don't think I'd classify that as a poor performance for Caleb. Had some big runs in second half and of course the TD at the end...and he's only had 6 and 7 INTs in two full seasons of starting. I think you're placing too much on the picks yesterday. He already set the franchise record for passing yards in a season (with one extra game) but I don't think anyone is upset with how Caleb performed this year. Certainly no Bears fan is.
And as a Packers fan I hate to say it, but he looked really good last week too. Well no Bear did in the first half...but after...
Stroud... can't defend him as much. The weather didn't help but that couple games he did not look good at all. The defense beat the Steelers almost alone.

ptmcmahon If I math right, I think Omega has taken the lead, NEN up to second, and Tog has jumped to third. All close enough to win if they get right pick and anyone ahead of them loses.
