a lot of boring, inconsequential matches, except for Osaka-Muchova, which I will try to watch at least one set of..

Ruud vs Mensik maybe? But indeed not many amazing matches on paper unless someone surprises us by beating a high seed.

Siegemund takes the first-set tiebreak from Zheng, so that one might get interesting.

Laura Siegemund has succeeded in annoying last year's runner up out of the tournament.

Siegemund played an outstanding match against Gauff in the first round of the U.S. Open two years ago and could have taken her out, but she didn't and Gauff went on to win the tournament.

Siegemund always takes herself seriously even when her ranking indicates she shouldn't.

Tomas Machac seems to have forgotten to wear shorts on court.

Andreeva just won the final four points of the third-set tiebreak to beat Uchijima 10-8.

Andreeva is in no way a contender for the title as others have projected, but that was a nice comeback because it looked like she was going down.

I want both Muchova and Osaka to win equally, so this is a kind of torture match. I just can't find a way to get into these kind of matches, though I continue to try.

that was an impressive win by Osaka - the old grand slam champion mode seemed to come back in the last 2 sets. So much for people saying she is all washed up...

Ruud's topspun forehand really not effective on hard courts..sits up and begs to be hit.

I was one of the people who thought Osaka might be washed up.

Very impressive performance in the last two sets. Outstanding.
