Matt Bradshaw from "Coffee Break Tennis" GRILLED Tiafoe for his comments at the presser. Not a good look - soliciting for a default win.

Soliciting for it is wrong.
But Muzetti should have been defaulted. Djokovic was defaulted at the USO. This was only different in the speed of the ball

That was unfortunate. But damn, Musetti has A LOT to be proud of--especially over the past few months.

The rule does not say anything about automatic DQ. It is on umpire discretion. And IMO this is how it shall be - surrounding circumstances could be very different. In practice the decision mostly depends on inflicted harm. In this particular case I think DQ would've been greatly disproportional. Djokovic was unlucky that his ball got to the throat. But it also was way faster than from Musetti's kick.

Umpire discretion. That is such a minefield, especially for the umpire.

He COULD have been proud if he had finished the match. He was hurting and he was without legs. But you don't retire because of that.
Add this to his infamous retirement against Djokovic and he is gaining the wrong reputation.

OMG, ponch.

Musetti definitely should not have been defaulted for kicking a ball that happened to hit a linesperson at a slow speed.

Djokovic should not have been defaulted for what he did, either, for that matter, although his action was significantly worse than Musetti's.

Rules are rules, but sometimes common sense needs to come into play.

Great reminiscence between Agassi and Andrei Medvedev on their 1999 final on TNT just now - well worth hunting down if you missed.
